Upcoming Research - A Clinical Study of Ketsumeisei
Clinical Study of Ketsumeisei is Underway! Dr. Rita Ellithorpe of Tustin Longevity Center (www.tlcdoctors.com) is going to conduct the first clinical study of Ketsumeisei in the United States. After years of success in China and Japan, Dr. Xianen Wang has brought his herbal supplement to the U.S. to spread awareness about new options for Diabetics and those with Metabolic Risk.
Abstract
This is the first clinical study on Ketsumeisei done in the US and the first in a program of investigation of Ketsumeisei and its effects on metabolic risk and type II diabetes. Ketsumeisei is a combination botanical product based on traditional Chinese medical theory and experience. As a preliminary study in the program, we propose a single safety study of Ketsumeisei in 60 volunteers with large waist circumference defined as > 102cm (40 inches) for men and or > 88 cm (35in) for women. Abdominal obesity ( by the simple measure of waist circumference) is a risk factor for several degenerative diseases including type II diabetes and is associated with insulin resistance. Chinese herbal medicine theory and preliminary data suggest an effect of Ketsumeisei on insulin resistance. Large-waisted individuals are a cohort sharing features with patients we will see in later studies in frank diabetes. Exclusion criteria for the present proposal include hemoglobin A1c>7.0 or the use of hypoglycemic drugs. For this study, a baseline observational period of 4 weeks will be followed by administration of Ketsumeisei for 12 weeks for a total of 16 weeks. Subjects will have four visits: at the beginning of the study and at week 4, 10, 16. Our primary outcomes will be subject-reported and laboratory adverse events. We will also collect and evaluate Ketsumeisei's effects on clinical, metabolic, hormonal, inflammatory, lifestyle and anthropometric measures.
